HYDERABAD:  The bomb blast in Delhi and the prevailing tense situation in Adoni in Kurnool district, has cast a shadow on the Ganesh immersion procession in the city on September 11.With a volatile situation prevailing in Adoni and today's blasts in Delhi, the police is on a state of high alert.
''We have instructed all police commissioners and SPs of all districts to step up vigil and take all measures to ensure peace,'' additional director general of police (Law and Order) SA Huda told Express.DGP V Dinesh Reddy has reviewed the bandobust arrangements through video conferencing on Tuesday and instructed the officials to take steps to ensure peace and, if required, even impose curfew.

Police officials said that two companies of Central Reserve Police Force and one platoon of AP Special Police were rushed to Adoni. ''No untoward incident was reported in the night and the situation is peaceful now,'' inspector general of police, Rayalaseema region, Govind Singh, who is camping in Adoni, said.

''Adoni was known to be communally sensitive. There were some skirmishes last year but the situation could be contained. The major communal flareup was reported in 1976 and 1977,'' sources said.

However, with today's blast in Delhi, the Hyderabad city police too have pressed the panic button and minute details are being chalked out to ensure peace on the immersion day. An alert has been sounded and security has been beefed up.

In fact, the trouble started in Adoni because of the music being played in front of a place of worship during Ganesh immersion procession. There were heated arguments between the two groups and heavy stone pelting followed.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad police commissioner AK Khan on Wednesday held a meeting with 20 senior police officers, who have been roped in from other units of the state police to assist the Hyderabad police for the Ganesh immersion procession.

Additional forces were being deployed in the city for the Ganesh immersion procession. Checkposts are being set up on the roads leading to the city and 800 pickets have already been erected. Nearly 100 teams have been formed to take up antisabotage checks.
