THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Applications are invited for admission to the General Nursing courses which will commence in October at the 14 Nursing schools under the Health Department and the Nursing school for SC/ST students at Ashramam in Kollam.Students who have secured 40 per cent marks in Plus II or equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as subjects and eligible for higher studies, may apply. SC/ST students need pass marks to apply. In the absence of sufficient SC/ST students, others also will be considered. Twenty per cent of the total 365 seats are reserved for boys.One merit seat each is reserved for dependents of ex-servicemen, missing defence personnel, children of those who died while serving in defence services recommended by the state Board for Navy and Air Force. One seat is reserved for girl dependents of paramilitary/ex- paramilitary personnel. As this seat is given on rotational basis, this time it will be given to a candidate from Kannur district.Two merit seats will go to the inmates of orphanages from Kozhikode and Malappuram district. Candidates should have completed 17 years of age as on October 1 and should not have crossed 27 years. SC/ST students will get three and five years relaxation in age limit respectively. Handicapped persons are barred from applying for the course. The application form and prospectus can be had from paying Rs 200 at Nursing Schools in the respective districts. SC/ST students may pay Rs 50 for the application form. The applications should reach the Principal of Nursing schools before August 12.
