KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Friday dismissed the plea of Kerala University former Vice-Chancellor M K Ramachandran Nair and four others seeking a stay on the recommendations made by the Upa Lok Ayukta to cancel the appointment of Assistant Grade II in the university.Justice T R Ramachandran Nair passed the order while considering a batch of petitions filed by Ramachandran Nair, former PVC V Jayaprakash and former Syndicate members B S Rajeev, A A Rasheed and K A Andrews. The Lok Ayukta had recommended ‘appropriate legal proceedings’ against the petitioners as they were found guilty of favouritism and nepotism in the selection of candidates.Appearing for the state, Additional Advocate-General K A Jaleel strongly opposed the plea of the petitioners. The AAG submitted that the government was examining the report and it would take some more time to arrive at a decision. University standing counsel George Poonthottam submitted that a crime had been registered and an investigation was being conducted on the basis of the findings of the N Sukumaran Committee report. If a stay is granted, it would hamper the investigation, he submitted. “An examination of the report and the recommendations made by the competent authorities need not be stopped at this stage,” the court said. The Lokayukta had recommended to the state government to cancel all appointments made to the post of Assistants made from a rank list prepared by Kerala University after conducting a written test in 2005 and a subsequent interview in 2007.
