New Delhi: After being the undisputed Indian No. 1 for long, Sania Mirza has now become Asia's No. 1 tennis star.
Mirza overtook Chinese ace Na Li in the WTA Rankings in the official list released earlier on Monday.
Sania's third-round appearance in the Australian Open women's singles helped her gain three spots to reach the 29th spot on the WTA charts. Na Li is now ranked 32 on the WTA Rankings table.
Sania had a reasonably good run in the Australian Open as she made the third round of the women's doubles event with local favourite Alicia Molik, besides reaching the mixed doubles finals, teaming up with Mahesh Bhupathi.
"I am very happy, I think this is the first time I would be Asian number one, so it's an honour," Sania said at the Australian Open.
