Pallavaram police on Saturday registered a case against the receptionist of a hotel after it was alleged that he had acted in an inappropriate manner with an Australian woman tourist.
The police said that the case was not filed under sections relating to molestation or offences against women.
The incident unfolded at a lodge in Meenambakkam where the Australian couple usually stayed on regular visits to India. They were getting ready to check out of the lodge, and were waiting at the reception to pay their bills when the receptionist allegedly remarked on the dress worn by the woman. He also allegedly touched her shirt while making a comment on its make and offered to buy her T-shirts of the same quality from Thirupur. This lead to a heated exchange of words between the couple and the receptionist.
The tourists left the lodge without filing a complaint with the local police station, but en route to the airport they met a senior police official and expressed their grievance which was taken as an oral complaint.
The police then picked up the receptionist for investigation where a case under section 75 of IPC was registered. Police said that the receptionist was later let off after a warning.
