O J Chinnamma, state president of the women’s wing of the Madhya Nirodhana Samithi, has been selected for the first state award for activists helping to create awareness against liquor and drugs.
“The award comprises Rs 10,000 and citation,” Excise Minister K Babu said.
The de-addiction wing of the Excise Department has instituted the award.
Chinnamma is a former head of the Sanskrit Department, Malabar Christian College. She is a member of the Gandhi Peace Foundation and in 1998, won the state award for the best programme coordinator, National Service Scheme.
Karuna Sai De-addiction Centre, Vellanad, has been selected for the award for the best NGO. The award carries Rs 25,000 and a citation. A committee headed by Additional Excise Commissioner N Prashanth selected the winners. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will give away the awards here on Wednesday.
