KOCHI: Premachandran, who has been experimenting with the changing trends of Indian music for the past two decades, is on a roll. He is all excited at the feedback he is getting after relaunching Long Play Records (LPR) with selected Malayalam film songs of K J Yesudas. It’s after a long gap of twenty four years  that Sathyam Audios has relaunched LPR.   “The format in which we transfer music at the recording room  plays a pivotal role in making it linger in the minds of  listeners,” says Premachandran, Along with many other factors including the composing, singing, lyrics and song sequence, this format also has a role in making those songs evergreen, he observes. After 1987 LP Records were replaced by cassettes and then CDs. “Though the technological development gives easy access we often have to compromise on the quality,” he says. He strongly believes that with his new venture he can certainly bring back those musical heydays of Malayalam cinema. “Though we have been planning for the relaunching of LPR for the past two years we were not at all confident about the response from the music buffs. We had to overcome many challenges including hiring the technology from Netherlands, non availability of sufficient gramaphone players, high cost, and of course the tough task of convincing the music lovers.” Keeping all these anxieties aside finally Sathyam Audios released the first print of selected songs of Yesudas. To make this historical event a memorable one the makers of the LPR designed the cover of the disc with an oil painting of the singer portrayed by Prajeesh. “Within a short span of one week after the formal release we received a number of positive responses directly from the listeners. “From the responses from the listeners it is vary clear that the music buffs are not bothered about the cost, but they care about the quality of recording,” he says. “For me it was really an exciting moment when I heard my own songs in LPR,” this was the instant response of music director M Jayachandran. Moreover, with the release of LPR all over the state, queries are flowing to various electronic shops asking for gramophone players. As the initial response from the music lovers all over Kerala is very encouraging Sathyam Audios is now planning to release popular songs of Shreya Goshal, P Jayachandran and Ravindran Master in the same old classic format.
