The two teenage sisters, who were cousins aged 14 and 15 years, were allegedly gangraped and murdered and their bodies found hanging from a mango tree in a village in Ushait area in Badaun.

Badaun: In a major disclosure in the death of the two dalit sisters who were found hanging from a tree in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh in May, the Central Bureau of Investigation has revealed that the girls were not murdered but had committed suicide. "CBI has concluded,the 2 minor girls in Badaun case had not been sexually assaulted & murdered,its a case of suicide," said CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad.

The investigating agency is likely to disclose its finding in the court on Friday.

The CBI in its report has given clean chit to the five people who were arrested and named in the FIR in the alleged rape and murder of the two cousins.

Reacting to the incident, Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Barkha Shukla said, "it is a sensitive issue, must be taken seriously. Such decisions should not be taken in haste. The CBI should revisit its report and culprits must be punished."

Five accused - three brothers Pappu Yadav, Awadhesh Yadav and Urvesh Yadav and constables Chhatrapal Yadav and Sarvesh Yadav - were arrested in connection with the case.

The girls went missing on May 27 and their bodies were found on May 28 in the district. Badaun is 300 kms from Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow.
