Bangalore: With the calm following the exodus of Northeasterners, it is business as usual for educational institutions in the city as Northeast students have started academic activities. Northeast students at Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering in Kumaraswamy Layout have started attending classes. Vice-Principal Dr K Kari Basappa said, “Out of nearly 200 Northeast students, 45 were wanting to go back. However, very few left the city and they are on their way back, and those who stayed back have started attending classes.”
While no major change has been made in the college’s academic calendar, he said students would be asked to decide on the internal assessment. “We’ll ask students whether they want it postponed,” Dr Kari Basappa added. However, St Joseph’s (Autonomous) College, which has more than 600 students from the Northeast, is yet to recover fully from the exodus.
Roland L Jangkholen Khongsai, a final year BSc student from Manipur, said less than 50 per cent of Northeast students are attending classes. “Attendance is not full. The rest of the students have reached their hometowns and are waiting for things to calm down completely. They want to wait for a week or two,” he said. Roland started attending classes from Monday.
Prof N V H Krishnan, Registrar, Jain University, said “In our case, we did not feel the impact of the exodus. Barring a few who left, the others are attending classes. In fact, we have stopped tracking as the panic has come to an end.”
