Bangladesh wants rail link with India
India has assured early conclusion of water-sharing deals on Teesta and Feni rivers.

New Delhi: Bangladesh has sought enhanced transport links with India, particularly rail connectivity. During a meeting with External Affairs Minister S M Krishna here on Thursday, Bangladesh Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs A H Mahmood Ali, MP, sought re-establishment of rail connectivity at Chilahati-Haldibari and Kulaura-Mahishashon between the two neighbours.

Ali, who is heading the Bangladesh delegation to LDC conference here, also wanted early operationalization of Rohanpur-Singhabad rail link and dual gauge conversion of Parbatipur-Birol rail section.

The two leaders also discussed connectivity to Nepal and Bhutan through India as well as use of Chittagong port as a regional hub of connectivity, a statement issued by Bangladesh High Commission said on Friday. It said India has assured early conclusion of water-sharing deals on Teesta and Feni rivers with Bangladesh.

He highlighted that passenger coach factory in Saidpur in Bangladesh could be modernized with Indian support under the USD 1 billion credit line extended by India during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India in January last year.

Ali and Krishna also discussed bilateral issues like barrier-free trade, stopping of civilian killings at the border and unfettered access to Tin Bigha enclave.

during the meeting with Krishna.
