BANGALORE: Following a petition filed by girls working in bars, the High Court issued a notice to the city police. The petitioners had contended that the police interfered with their work and stated they were not allowed to enter the bar premises to continue with their profession.
The petitioners, Kajol and others, in their submission stated that despite the earlier orders by the court and the former police commissioner, extending work timings for bars till 11.30 pm, the police were not allowing them to resume to their duties.Further, the bar girls had alleged that the police were partial while performing their duties, and granted permission only to posh discotheques to employ women as bartenders. They stated this indifference amounted to discrimination and violation of Article 14 of Indian Constitution.

The petitioners also submitted that the police action is a violation of Article 19 (1) (g) and Article 21.

In another petition before Abdul Nazeer, a restaurateur has moved to the High Court alleging that the city police force him to close down the restaurant before 11.30 pm, which has been hampering his business and livelihood. He sought justice to continue his work.
