HYDERABAD: Leaders of various associations of Backward Classes met at a state plenary of BCs held here on Sunday and vowed to end the hegemony of upper caste people in politics.Several leaders called for floating of a political party exclusively for Backward Classes, alleging that though Backward Classes constituted nearly half of the population the central and state governments were neglecting them in all aspects. All political parties were utilising the services of BCs during elections but were shying away from fielding them in elections to send them to legislatures, they alleged.The plenary warned all political parties that if they did not change attitude before 2014, the BCs would them a lesson.State BC Welfare Association president R Krishnaiah demanded that the central government provide 50 percent reservation to BCs in legislative bodies by introducing a bill in Parliament. He also demanded promotions and reservation to BC employees and said the law can be amended for the purpose. He also demanded creation of a BC sub-plan with Rs 10,000 crore and a hike in the budgetary allocation for BCs from Rs 3,050 crore to `10,000 crore.Among his other demands were filling half of the nominated posts with BCs, appointment of BCs as information commissioners, Supreme Court and High Court judges, and vice-chancellors of universities.The plenary adopted 32 resolutions. BC leaders J Srinivas Gowd, Mallesh Yadav, Yaga Ramesh and C Rajender were among those who spoke.
