Ushering in the second generation of legal education reforms, Union minister for power Veerappa Moily on Sunday stressed on the need of an inclusive reform.
Speaking at the 10th annual convocation address at the NALSAR University of Law here on Sunday, Moily called for a review of the legal education system.
Though the proposed changes, initiated by the government in the shape of the Higher Education and Research Bill proposing entry of foreign universities, have evoked much criticism, the Union minister instead chose to highlight the academic changes rather than administrative ones.
“Keep your minds open and learn about the developments and changing trends in the nation. We should be sensitive to the welfare of the underprivileged sections of society,” said Moily.
The convocation was also attended by chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and acting chief justice of the High Court justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose. Girl students bagged top honours at the graduation ceremony.
LLM graduate Rejitha N Nair was awarded gold medal for topping in comparative constitutional law. Two students of B.A LLB (Hons), Sakshi Sawhney and Chand Chopra, received eight gold medals each. A total of 630 students were awarded their degrees at the convocation including two Ph.D candidates, 54 students of LLM and 74 students of B. A LLB (Hons) as well as other diploma and masters degrees
