BANGALORE: The state government has dissolved the MES-controlled Belgaum City Corporation “for having failed to run the civic body in keeping with the provisions of the Karnataka Municipal Act”. A statement on this was made by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda in the Assembly on Thursday. Meanwhile, Belgaum DC has been appointed BCC administrator.Gowda said that after considering the conduct of BCC, the state government had issued a notice to the civic body under Section 99 (1) of Karnataka Municipal Act.“The state government studied BCC’s explanation. It was of the view that the civic body has not adhered to the provisions of the Act and it has also not heeded to instructions given by the government from time to time,” the CM added.He said the conduct of the BCC and Mayor has hurt people’s sentiments. Mayor Manda Balekundry had observed Rajyotsava as “black day” and BCC passed a resolution not to honour Jnanpith awardee Chandrasekhar Kambar.
