BELGAUM: Following heavy rains for a week, flooding various canals and rivers have damaged crops worth crores of rupees in Belgaum and Khanapur taluks. Bellary Nala seems to be the most furious of all.The Bellary Nala floods have inundated about 700 acres of fields on its banks at Halga, Bastwad, Basavan-Kudachi, Vadgaon and Yellur villages. The loss of paddy at Vadgaon and Yellur is estimated to be the highest.According to the villagers of Yellur and Vadgaon, after the PWD had raised the height of the Vadgaon-Yarmal Road, the flood water has been entering their fields and destroying their crops. They said that if the PWD had created a passage below the road for the water to flow, it would not have inundated their fields.
