People have started selling food at unusual places, be it atop a bike or on a roof. Have you ever seen an eatery which is built inside an E-rickshaw? Anup Mondal of Katwa town in Purba Bardhaman district of West Bengal has started this eatery in a battery-operated rickshaw. He sells fast foods like momos and other items. Anup hails from Birbhum district. His family consists of his mother, father and two daughters. He used to work in a restaurant in Kolkata, but the income was not enough for him to meet the economics of his family. He started his restaurant in an e-rickshaw, adding a touch of creativity to his approach to get an upper hand on his competitors.
Anup bought this old E-rickshaw for Rs 48,000 to set up shop. The total renovation cost of the e-rickshaw in the shop was Rs 1.70 lakh. It includes gas, an oven and various cooking appliances. Anup prepares different types of food in his shop like noodles, egg rolls and his special momos. His shop can be seen in the evening near the municipality of Katwa city. The visitors wait for the shop and flock to the counter as soon as it arrives. This novel idea of a portable restaurant is loved by several people. Many daily customers said they had not seen such a fancy shop before. Apart from the decoration, the visitors also praise the quality of food. Anup has also installed a CCTV camera inside the shop. The small e-rickshaw is also equipped with LCD TV and colourful lights. He opens the shop every day except Sunday.
Nowadays, electric food carts are available in the market. This requires less investment when compared to renting a place and opening a shop there. It is also portable and can accommodate necessary appliances required by the shop owner.
