A top private school in Bengaluru has promised an internal investigation after AI-generated images of at least two girl students emerged online. Parents of the one of the students from Class IX have lodged a formal complaint with the cyber police.
According to the police, the parents said AI-generated pictures of their teenage daughter and one other student have been posted online. The morphed images of the 15-year-old girls first started circulating on the school’s unofficial Instagram group, which had more than 50 members as on May 24. They said the girl, whose parents have filed a complaint, is not a part of this group, she was alerted by others about the photos.
Parents suspect culprits known to their daughter
In their complaint, the girl’s parents said their daughter’s face was extracted from an image on her Instagram page before being turned into AI-generated nudes. They were then posted on the group using a fake ID.
The police said the parents suspect that the culprits are known to the girls as their daughter has a private social media account and the Instagram group was a closed one. The cyber cell is tracking down the IP address of the anonymous Instagram handle, from which the images were posted. After students questioned the account holder on social media, they went offline and did not make any other post, the police added.
The school, which is closed for the summer vacation, has assured the parents that an internal investigation will be conducted in the matter. According to reports, no complaint has been filed on behalf of the other student whose morphed pictures have gone viral.
