TIRUNELVELI: New AIADMK mayor Vijila Sathyananth promises to end the perennial woes of the people of the city. Vijila told Express that water scarcity prevailed in all the 55 wards and the previous DMK administration failed to act. She promised to ensure that drinking water reached all residents.Traffic congestion is the next major issue. In a bid to ease the bottleneck at Vannarpettai, a grade separator would be constructed, altering the existing road overbridge, she said. Further, to make the city free of traffic jams, connecting roads would be laid in Tirunelveli town, Palayamkottai and other places, she said.In a effort to clean up the city, scavengers will be appointed, she said.Another agenda of the new Mayor, who was earlier a school correspondent, is to spruce up Corporation-run schools. Though a Corporation school secured state first in SSLC examination, the institutions lacked infrastructure facilities. She aims at making the schools on a par with private schools. The AIADMK mayor further said the city lacked entertainment facilities. New parks and theme parks would be developed and private sector would be involved in maintaining them.
