Adopting a novel method to woo voters, BJP nominee from the prestigious Nainital Lok Sabha seat in Uttarakhand, Bhagat Singh Koshiyari on Saturday hit the campaign trail in his constituency with a roadshow on a bullock cart to highlight the poor condition of highways in the state.
"I have come to you in a carriage pulled by bullocks because I want you to see the shabby condition of roads and highways in the state and understand the reasons behind this," Koshiyari said addressing the electorate from his bullock-cart.
Moving on the highway here means searching for a way out of the potholes, he said.
Steeped in corruption, the Congress government has done nothing to improve the condition of roads which has led to an unprecedented rise in the number of road accidents in the state, the former chief minister said.
Dozens of people die in road accidents across Uttarakhand every month, he said and appealed to people to vote for BJP if they wanted to see improvement here.
Contested in the past by leaders of the stature of Govind Ballabh Pant, his son K C Pant and Narayan Dutt Tiwari, Nainital is considered one of the most prestigious seats in the hill state.
