Despite the rain causing interference on a couple of occasions, Sri Lanka claimed a comfortable victory in the home ODI series against Zimbabwe. The opening game of the three-match competition was washed out due to persistent bad weather. Sri Lanka won the second ODI by a narrow margin before registering an eight-wicket victory in the rain-marred third game as per the DLS method. Both teams will now shift their focus to the T20I leg of the bilateral series. The first T20I between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on January 16, with the on-field actions starting at 7 PM IST.
Sri Lanka’s Angelo Matthews has been called up for the T20I series against Zimbabwe. The veteran all-rounder has been out of T20I cricket for a long period of nearly three years. Matthews will look to make the most out of this opportunity to cement his place in Sri Lanka’s 20-over set-up.
The batters duo of Kusal Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva are also set to return to the squad after sitting out of the ODI leg.The Zimbabwe series also marks Wanindu Hasaranga’s maiden assignment as a Sri Lankan captain. Meanwhile, experienced all-rounder Sikandar Raza will lead Zimbabwe in the T20I series. Mufudza, Akram and Takudzwanashe Kaitano, who were part of the ODI squad, have been replaced by Brian Bennett, Carl Mumba and Ainsley Ndlovu.
