BHUBANESWAR: Large number of BJD leaders have been rehabilitated in cooperative bodies, appointments for which were made on Sunday.
The existing cooperative bodies automatically dissolved after the Orissa Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2011, which had been passed by the Assembly on August 26, got Governor's assent on Saturday. The amended Bill provides for fiveyear tenure of bodies, consisting of primary, central and apex societies, instead of four years. Those nominated to different cooperative bodies include several former ministers and former MLAs. According to sources, president of the Nabarangpur district BJD president Jaydev Parida has been appointed president of the Orissa State Cooperative Housing Corporation Limited while former Bhubaneswar mayor Mihir Mohanty will be chairman of the Orissa Cooperative Consumer Federation.
Former MLA Bipin Das has been appointed chairman of the Orissa Cooperative Banks and Credit Societies Limited while former minister Balabhadra Majhi will continue as president of the Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation of Orissa Limited (TDCC). Similarly, former MLA Jogendra Behera will head the SC ST Financial Development Cooperative Corporation. Former MLA Jagneswar Babu will continue as president of the Orissa State Cooperative Bank (OSCB). Subash Maharana has been appointed as president of the Berhampur Central Cooperative Bank while Uma Nayak will head the Berhampur Urban Cooperative Bank. Manoranjan Dash has been appointed president of the Sundargarh Central Cooperative Bank while Prashant Kumar Sethi will be president of the Rourkela Urban Cooperative Bank. Former MLA Dharmananda Behera will be president of the Cuttack Urban Cooperative Bank while former minister and Congress leader Bhagabat Prasad Mohanty has been renominated president of the Kendrapara Urban Cooperative Bank. Former MLA Chhatish Chandra Dhal has been appointed president of the Baripada Urban Cooperative Bank.
