Rahul is the sitting MP from the constituency. AAP leader Kumar Vishwas had already announced to contest from the same constituency against Rahul Gandhi.
For the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat BJP has fielded Supreme Court lawyer Ajay Agarwal against Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
The decision to field Irani from Amethi was taken at a BJP central election committee meeting in New Delhi.
