THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There has been fraud in the distribution of ration cards in the state, BJP state spokesman George Kurien has alleged. He told a news conference here on Monday that bogus ration cards were being issued in Kasargod district. Muslim League workers in Kasargod district were colluding with the officials to issue bogus ration cards, he alleged. “ The applicants do not even have to appear in person for getting photographed at the Supply office. The Muslim League workers take the photos through their cell phones and make the officials issue the cards on the same day printed and laminated,” he alleged. He said that there were allegations that in certain cases even persons who are not Indian citizens were issued ration cards in Kasargod. He called for transparency in the issuance of ration cards. In many places the distribution of ration cards has become a law and order issue, he said. CBI PROBE SOUGHT Referring to the new revelations by locals about the mysterious death of Sr Mary Ancy of Fatima Holy Spirit Convent, Poonkulam, Kurien called for a CBI probe into the death of the nun.
