Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Jamnagar Poonamben Hematbhai Maadam fell into a drain on Monday during a demolition drive. The MP had gone to oversee a demolition drive in Jalaram Nagar area of her Lok Sabha constituency when the mishap took place.
41-year-old Maadam fell into an 8-feet deep drain when a thin concrete crust covering it cracked under her feet and suffered a gash on her head.
Police said she was standing on the concrete sheet which was made to cover the drain while meeting people when it broke and she fell.
According to her doctor, S Maheshwari, the leader suffered a 4-inch deep gash on her head and has hurt her shoulder and foot.
The residents were not letting the employees carry the demolition upon which Maadam rushed to the spot to talk to them. The drain joins the nearby Lakhoti lake and remains mostly dry during summer.
Maadam's doctor said that her condition was stable. "She has suffered a 4-inch wound on her head that caused bleeding which is now under control. We have not detected any fracture in X-Ray reports but CT scan remains to be done," Maheshwari said.
