THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, in its efforts to erase the scars of series of defeats on the electoral front, has started once again its activities to build up a mass base.
The setbacks in the recently held Assembly elections and the recurring saga of cross voting by their political opponents in constituencies, where they had the potential to win, have prompted the leadership to work on widening the mass base. The state unit has already launched various campaigns to win the hearts of the farmers.
Spearheading the campaign, the Bharatiya Karshaka Morcha has started activities at various parts of the state by taking up the issues such as neglect of farmers, better price for farm produces and reclamation of Kuttanad paddy land."Special focus will be given to problems of coconut, paddy farmers and the fisheries sector. Bharatiya Karshaka Morcha national president Omprakash Dhankad came to the state the other day to guide the state Morcha leadership in launching the campaigns," he said.State Dairy Farmers' Convention is another programme to make inroads into the dairy sector. Chandrasekharan said that they had planned a farmers' rally in front of Parliament on August 3. The Yuva Morcha's Parliament rally on August 9 against corruption is another programme to galvanise the party machinery. The party has decided to organise four regional camps for leaders in Kozhikode from July 31 to August 2, in Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad on August 5 to 7 and in Ernakulam by the end of August. To enlarge its presence in the state and make it felt, the leaders from panchayat-level to state-level have been asked to focus on two booths each.
