BlackBerry Z3's price tag puts it in a fix, the Z10 is still a better deal

New Delhi: Struggling smartphone maker BlackBerry appears to have made another wrong move, yet again. In its attempts to get a strong foothold in the Indian smartphone market, BlackBerry last week introduced its cheapest BlackBerry 10 smartphone - the BlackBerry Z3. The company, after a long while managed to hit the mid-range smartphone segment with a full-touch, BlackBerry 10 OS-powered smartphone but where BlackBerry went wrong was in determining the price of the new phone.

The Z3 was highly expected to come for under Rs 12,000, but having kept its price at Rs 15,990, the company has not only disappointed tech enthusiasts but also perplexed potential buyers in taking a wise buying decision. This is because potential BlackBerry phone buyers today have an option of grabbing a high-end BlackBerry Z10 with better specs by shelling out a mere Rs 1,000 more.

BlackBerry Z10, which was the first phone to come with BlackBerry 10 OS in India, was launched back early last year at Rs 43,490, and in a year-and-a-half period, the company has brought its price down to Rs 17,000 by announcing multiple price cuts on the phone. While the BlackBerry Z10 costs Rs 1,000 more than the newly launched Z3, the benefits on buying a BlackBerry Z10 are worth much more than the little difference between the price tags.

The only place where the BlackBerry Z10 falls short of the newly released Z3 is the screen size. At 5-inch display, the newly launched Z3 has a bigger display than the old Z10 smartphone that features a 4.2-inch display. The BlackBerry Z10 may have a smaller display than the Z3, but it's not too small not to be considered as a contender.

While the Z3 comes with a powerful battery (on paper) than the Z10, but that does not make it a clear winner on the battery front. How long do the two phones last can be measured only after putting them to actual tests.
