HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam chief N Chandrababu Naidu has demanded that the CBI be brought under the purview of Lokpal.Speaking to mediapersons before going on his Rythu Porubata in Medak district on Wednesday morning, Naidu said: “The Lokpal bill has been so drafted that it is toothless. It has no control over the CBI and though the prime minister has been brought under it, there are too many ifs and buts.”If the CBI is not under the purview of Lokpal, the new institution will not be able to take up any case against anyone accused of corruption. The CBI will remain under the Union government doing its bidding - filing cases and prosecuting those the government wants it to do, he said. The TDP chief said he would support not just Anna Hazare but anyone who speaks up against corruption. “The people want a corruption-free India and brining forth a powerful institution of Lokpal will be an exercise in that direction,” Naidu said.He said reforms were ushered in, a lot of wealth was created and the greedy wanted to take a potshot at it. “The 2G spectrum and illegal mining of iron ore are only a couple of examples,” Naidu said, adding: “It is not enough to find out who has resorted to corruption and handing out punishment. We should have a mechanism to recover the entire money which a corrupt person had amassed,”As regards the scams that had seen light in the state, the excise and sand mining ones take the cake. There seems to be no check on the involvement of politicos in these scams. “The politician, official and trader nexus should be broken,” he said.
