Car blast in Srinagar kills four
Four people were killed and 72 injured after a massive explosion in Srinagar. The injured includes former state minister Usman Majid.

Srinagar: A day after the attack on a political rally in Tangmarg, militants struck again in the Valley.

Wednesday's blast was carried out at the heart of Srinagar city, at 1015 hrs IST, outside the state-owned Jammu and Kashmir bank at Dalgate, when the area was crowded with office workers and shoppers.

Four people were killed and 72 injured, including former state minister Usman Majid.

Several vehicles, including the escort car of Usman Majid, were damaged in the blast.

The impact of the blast was so severe that it rattled nearby buildings and shattered window panes. The explosion was heard several kilometers away.

Mangled pieces of vehicles and blood-smeared dead bodies strewn across the blast area.

Police believe that the militants used a vehicle laden with RDX to trigger the explosion.

Police's relief efforts to take the injured to hospitals were hindered as the blast triggered panic and caused massive traffic jams at the city centre.

Militant outfit Al-Arifeen has claimed responsibilty for the blast.
