BHUBANESWAR: Four persons were seriously injured when a car rammed into a crowd near the Big Bazaar mall on Monday. Angry locals damaged the car when police reached the spot. The incident occurred at about 7.30 pm when the driver lost control over the vehicle which swerved into the commuters and left at least seven of them injured. Police said the driver apparently stepped on the accelerator instead of applying the brakes in the tense moments and hit at least two “gup chup” stalls and as many autorickshaws. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The four seriously injured are Rajesh Pradhan, Kapileswar Barik, his son Parthasarathi Barik and Sagarika Mohanty. Kapileswar was taking his son to see a doctor. All of them were rushed to Capital Hospital. The vehicle was seized and the driver arrested by Kharavela Nagar police. For long the Big Bazaar area has been crammed with vehicles parked along side the road and traffic movement has been a casualty. Even the BMC parking lot eats half of the road while police have turned a blind eye to the situation.
