CBI to probe J&K sex abuse scandal
J&K govt has ordered a CBI probe into the allegations that top politicians were involved in a sex abuse scandal.

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a CBI probe into the allegations of two minor girls that top politicians and police officials were involved in a sex abuse scandal.

"The state government has decided to transfer the alleged sex scandal-cum-prostitution case to the CBI for a thorough investigation," an official spokesman said.

A 30-second pornographic CD in a downtown locality in Srinagar in March created a furore as two of the girls allegedly blackmailed and lured into prostitution claimed that some top politicians and police officials were involved in the racket.

The decision was taken after Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig wrote a letter to Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to hand the case to an independent agency like the CBI, said former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

Baig asked for a CBI inquiry saying the probe by the state police would not be credible as some police officials had been named, Sayeed, whose People's Democratic Party is a partner in the ruling coalition, told reporters.

"Whoever was involved, be it a politician or an officer of any rank, in the racket would not be spared. Nobody can save them if the investigations hold them guilty," he said.

Mufti also decried the coverage of the case in the media, saying it was still a matter of investigation. "To castigate a politician or officer just because they have been named by a girl involved in the racket is not fair."
