Chennai authorities have now formed teams to inspect 330 multi-storey buildings in the city to check their safety standards.

Chennai: The death toll in the Chennai building collapse has now risen to 50. Six days on, rescue operations still continue with hopes to find more survivors.

Twenty-seven people have been rescued so far. The government had claimed that there were 72 people inside the building when it collapsed, but as per the death toll and the number of people rescued the tally stands at 77.

Rattled by the death toll, Chennai authorities have now formed teams to inspect 330 multi-storey buildings in the city to check their safety standards. This after it was revealed that structural flaws led to the collapse.

The NHRC has also sought a report from the Tamil Nadu government on the incident.
