CHENNAI: Five students, four of them girls, reportedly committed suicide in different parts of the State following poor show in the Plus Two examination, the results of which were declared on Tuesday.In one incident in Chennai, S Srimathi, a student of a school in Kalpakkam, where she stayed with her parents, had come to spend the vacation with her grandparents in Nochikuppam on Marina Beach. She had secured 725 marks out of 1,200, lower than what she had expected. On Tuesday evening, her grandparents found her hanging from the ceiling. Police ruled it a case of suicide. In the other incident, Tahir Hussain, residing on Gandhi Street in Hastinapuram, Chromepet, ended his life after failing in the Math examination. Chitlapakkam police have registered a case.In Tiruppur, Mohanapriya (17), daughter of Dhandapani and Baby of Thattanvalasu near Kangayam, died at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Tuesday night. A student of Government Higher Secondary School in Koduvai, she had consumed poison after a tiff with her parents who told her that she had to get good marks to pursue higher studies.In another incident, Sharmila (17), daughter of Krishnan of Pandian Street in Paramakudi, who was undergoing treatment for burns at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai, died in the early hours of Wednesday. Police said she set herself on fire after scoring poor marks in the Plus Two examination. Poor scores was also the reason why 17-year-old T Sauntharya of Namakkal ended her life. According to police, the daughter of P Thangavelu of Mettur was staying at her grandmother’s house at Muniappanpalayam near Rasipuram. She had scored  714 in Plus Two which made her dejected. She was found hanging from the ceiling, police said. Police have registered a case.Boy Runs AwayTiruppur police said that Jeevan Raj (17), son of Jeganathan of Angeripalayam, ran away from home fearing poor marks. A complaint has been lodged.
