Chennai Teen Stabs Mother to Death for Stopping Her from Eloping with Facebook Lover

A 19-year-old girl stabbed her mother to death on Monday after she prevented her from eloping with a man she reportedly befriended on Facebook just six months ago.

The teenager has been identified as Devi Priya, a second-year college student. She was residing with her parents Sivagurunathan and Banumathy along with her sister Chamundeswari in Chennai’ Thiruvallur area, reported the New Indian Express.

Devi Priya had befriended Vivek on Facebook and had developed a strong relationship with him, but had never met him in person. When her parents found out about it, they restricted her from leaving the house and using her mobile phone.

Frustrated with the constraints, she contacted Vivek and planned to elope with him, said the police.

On the night of the commission of the crime, Vivek had sent two of his friends, Vignesh and Sathish, to get Devi Priya to Kumbakonam, where he was working in a garment shop.

Banumathi figured out her daughter’s plan while the latter was busy packing her bag and thereby stopped her from leaving the house. Angry for pillaging on her plans, a fuming Devi Priya picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed her mother in the presence of the two men.

After the murder, Vivek’s friends fled the house but were caught by the neighbours who spotted blood stains on their shirts.

The Tamil Nadu police have arrested Devi Priya, Vivek, Vignesh and Sathish.
