CK Chandrappan, a Glasnost communist

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘Glasnost’ and ‘perestroika’ were the two words which transformed the communist world in the mid-eighties. It  not only led to the fall of the iron curtain but also ultimately to the disintegration of the Soviet Union.The waves of change left the communists across the globe in deep ideological crisis.Even before the advent of ‘glasnost’ and ‘perestroika’, CK Chandrappan, a  communist leader, known for his openness, clarity of thought and expression, had tried to convey the message of the dangers of totalitarianism in countries which had embraced communism.
