New Delhi: Clothing and mobile phones seem to be points of contention in the Committee of Ethics of the Assam Legislature these days. Members of the Committee are a worried lot with much concern over what members should be wearing while attending the House.
Only formal wear is appropriate in the Assam Legislature Assembly, said the Committee, asserting that it was not appropriate for members of the House to wear informal outfits like jeans, t-shirts and salwar-kameez while attending the House.
The Committee has even recommended a dress code for the members, saying men should wear formal wear while women should wear ‘traditional’ outfits while attending the House.
The Committee, however, did not specify what it meant by ‘formal’ wear and ‘traditional’ outfits since it has already dismissed salwar-kameez as ‘casual’ wear.
Another concern that seemed to cloud the Committee was the matter of mobile phones and it recommended the installation of a cabinet where members can keep their phones before attending the House.
But all the recommendations made by the Committee of Ethics of the Assam Legislature are yet to be accepted by the House.
