All eyes will be on Mohanlal today as he is expected to make his first appearance after quitting as the president of AMMA. The superstar resigned from his position as the President of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists amid growing cases of sexual harassment in the Kerala film industry. The actor issued a statement about his exit but has stayed tight-lipped about the MeToo movement in Mollywood. His exit and silence on the cases has criticised by several people, including popular Malayalam actress Parvathy Thiruvothu.
Amid his silence, several Malayalam news portals have reported that Mohanlal will be meeting the media on Saturday afternoon. The actor will be attending the launch of the Kerala Cricket League in Thiruvananthapuram. Following the launch, he will be meeting the press. The local media has been invited for the conference. However, it is unclear if he will address his AMMA exit and the ongoing wave of MeToo movement that has taken the Kerala film industry by storm.
Mohanlal quit his position as the President of AMMA earlier this week. He had a 17-member executive committee. All the members of the executive committee submitted their joint resignation. “AMMA has decided to disperse the executive committee on moral grounds in the light of allegations made by some actors against some of the committee members. A new committee will be formed after an election within two months,” the statement read.
Popular Malayalam news publication, Manorama, claimed that Mohanlal held a private consultation with Mammootty. The report also claimed that Mammootty ‘supported’ his decision. Mammootty allegedly agreed that it was the ‘best course of action.’ The report also claimed that there were attempts made to urge Mohanlal to reconsider his decision but the actor was unwilling to budge. News18 couldn’t verify the claims at the time of reporting.
