KOCHI: Putting an end to the anxieties over implementation of Kochi metro rail, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Sunday announced a special package for land acquisition for the project.Speaking at a public discussion on the project here, the Chief Minister said land acquisition for metro rail would be included in the new land acquisition policy to be brought in by the government.As part of the special package, those evicted for the project will be given market rate for the land taken from them."Those who give their land for the project will be given 45 cents of land with electricity, road and water facilities in addition to the compensation given. Also they need to give their land only after receiving the compensation amount."The government was also examining the possibility of relocating them. The government would relax building rules for those who want to build houses in the remaining portion of land," Chandy said.To ensure transparency to the whole project, all documents related to it would be posted on the government website within three weeks.This instruction was given by the Chief Minister after listening to the complaints by representatives of various public forums.He added that the metro rail office would be set up in Kochi within a month. The Chief Minister also declared an amount of Rs 25 crore for metro-associated projects in the city.Presiding over the meet, Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed said the Kochi metro would be completed in four years once the approval was given. It could be implemented at a cost of around Rs 5,000 crore, he added.more:
