HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has asked ministers M Maheedar Reddy, M Mukesh Goud and Danam Nagender to hold discussions with senior officials of finance and municipal officials to work out modalities for financing the Phase-III of Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project (KDWSP).After holding wider consultations, he asked them to submit a report within seven days on the utilisation of Krishna waters to meet the drinking water needs of the Greater Hyderabad.The chief minister wanted the officials to constitute a highlevel committee of officers to prepare the report.At a meeting of the governing body of the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply & Sewerage Board held at the Secretariat here on Friday, the chief minister asked the officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to augment drinking water supply to the growing population of the city.The Rs 1,670-crore KDWSP Phase-III aims to supply an additional 90 million gallons of water per day (MGD) to Greater Hyderabad and to the villages along the pipeline route in Nalgonda and Rangareddy districts.The chief minister also directed the officials to prepare a report on the income and expenditure of HMWSSB, and to take steps to strengthen the board financially.He asked to plug the loopholes relating to the leakages, raising of bills and revenue deficit which is to the tune of Rs 16 crore before the government can decide on tariff hike.On complaints of contaminated water supply from the Osmansagar and Himayatsagar, Reddy called for testing of water quality on a daily basis.He also sought a report on the 188 tanks and lakes in the city.He asked the water board to offer slum-dwellers a onetime settlement of arrears of Rs 5,000 and above.The officials informed the chief minister that the first-phase beautification of Musi river was completed and the proposal for the second phase was to be sent to the central government.They said a plan was prepared to replace the old drinking water supply pipelines at a cost of Rs 75 crore.The government had released Rs 10 crore and the release of the remaining Rs 65 crore was awaited.
