HYDERABAD: The state government will soon implement Rajiv Education and Employment Mission which aims to provide industry-friendly education to students, according to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. The government aims to generate 15 lakh jobs (both governemnt and private) in the next 3 years through this mission, he said.Addressing the 93rd annual function of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) at Federation House here on Thursday, the chief minister expressed concern about college syllabus not being industry- oriented. “Once students complete their courses, they do not get jobs as industries find their academic record useless,” he said and hoped that the Rajiv Education and Employment Mission would help set right this lacuna. The chief minister elaborated the importance of a strong industry-government relationship. He wanted the industrialists to pitch in ideas and help colleges set their syllabi according to industry requirements. On the occasion, FAPCCI president V S Raju requested Kiran Kumar Reddy to increase the budget allocated for industrial sector. The new industrial policy has set a target of 17 per cent growth in manufacturing and an increased investment subsidy for micro and small enterprises. However, the budget allocated is Rs 300 crore, which is not sufficient to achieve the said target, V S Raju said and asked the chief minister to increase the budget to Rs 3000 crore. He also wanted the 4 per cent VAT on textiles to be removed and better power supply to the industrial sector. The federation announced a proposal to establish an International Trade Facilitation Centre and put forth a request to the chief minister for 30 acres of land for the purpose in a place equi-distant to the twin cities. The chief minister, in his reply to the industry said the state is ahead of the rest in the country in terms of power distribution and there was only 6 per cent power shortage last year. This year too, nearly 1,000 mega watts of power has been bought, Kiran Kumar said. Acquiring lands for setting up more power plants is difficult as locals oppose the move on one hand and industries misuse the land on the other, he said. The chief minister, however, added that initiatives would be taken to increase the pace of development of the power sector. He also mentioned that the state will come up with new land policy for industries.Speaking about VAT, he said the government’s aim is not to fleece anybody for money. Taxation is a means to generate revenue and certain sections of the industry are chosen after careful consideration, said the chief minister.
