KOCHI: More than 20 complaints were lodged with the police after the media carried reports of the arrest of Euro Asia managing director Thankachan. The accused, now remanded in Ernakulam sub-jail, was arrested following the complaints lodged by Asha, a Kottayam native, and Elsa Mary, a native of Pathanamthitta.Though most of Thankachan’s victims are from Kottayam and Pathanamthitta, complaints through e-mail have alleged that he had carried out similar frauds in the UK too.Direct complaints alleging that he had siphoned off Rs 2.3 lakh from David Peter (Chalakkudy), Rs 2.30 lakh from Anoop (Tripunithura), Rs 23,000 from Jeena Elizabeth (Kottayam), Rs 2.30 lakh from Preetha Joseph and Anna Joseph (Kottayam), 3,000 pounds from Anosh Mathew ( Kottayam) and Rs 2.80 lakh from Maharani (Tamil Nadu) were received. Moreover, he had taken 3,000 pounds from Jisha Balakrishnan and 2,000 pound each from Sosamma Daniel and Meena Francis. Besides, on the complaint lodged by Kottayam native Ansamma Daniel, a case has been registered against him for forgery and impersonation. He had taken Rs 1.95 lakh from Ansamma promising study and job visa in UK and later convinced her that the visa was rejected. When she reached UK through another agency, he approached her for more money. When she objected, he started a fake account at a bank at Vennala, Palarivattom, in her name and received a cheque book using forged signature. Later, he presented a cheque for Rs 5 lakh at the bank and registered a case against Ansamma when the cheque bounced because of the lack of funds.A team led by assistant commissioner Sunil Jacob under the guidance of Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar and Deputy Commissioner Gopalakrishna Pillai is investigating the case.
