THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Tamil Nadu Domestic Workers’ Union, the SEWA union and the Tamil Nadu Human Rights Movement took out a Secretariat march and staged a dharna on Wednesday, demanding a fair inquiry into the death of the domestic worker Amuda at Kothamangalam.The protesting groups called for a CBI inquiry into the death of Amuda, compulsory registration of domestic workers and their employers, and clear-cut labour agreements in the matter of migrant workers. Amuda’s mother Malar took part in the protests.The dharna was inaugurated by S Rajendran MLA, who said that a lot of domestic workers were migrating from Tamil Nadu to Kerala and that the State Government should do the needful to protect their rights. SEWA union secretary Sonia George, Tamil Nadu Human Rights Movement coordinator Adv Jose and Mercy Alexander of Kerala Sthreevedi also spoke on the occasion.
