Congress, BJP regimes anti-people, says Karat

KHAMMAM: CPM general secretary Prakash Karat has said there is no difference between the regimes of Congress and BJP as both are anti-people.Addressing a huge public meeting organised here on Saturday to mark the conclusion of the 23rd state CPM convention, Karat hailed the Supreme Court verdict cancelling 122 2G licences in the spectrum case, which was the biggest ever scandal in the country’s history as Rs 1.76 lakh crore was involved in it.The CPM would intensify its agitation against corruption in the country as part of its endeavour to cleanse the system.Finding fault with the ‘anti-farmer’ policies of both the state government and the Centre, he said 160 debt-ridden farmers had committed suicide in the state in January.The Congress government at the Centre and in the state should feel ashamed for its ‘failure’ to prevent ryot suicides.The indiscriminate acquisition of farm lands for setting up SEZs had affected thousands of farmers in the country, Karat said.CPI state secretary BV Raghavulu demanded that the government should increase wages of contract workers in view of the rising prices.
