New Delhi: The Congress on Thursday demanded an FIR against BJP prime ministerial pick Narendra Modi, party workers and TV channels for poll code violation with the telecast of the BJP strongman's road show ahead of his filing his nomination from Varanasi.

Congress leader Ajay Maken lampooned Modi saying, "The media covered Modi's nomination filing process for the entire day. He chose this roadshow on a polling day. In news channels it was shown that he garlanded Hindu leaders. We have lodged complaint about it."

Taking a dig at Modi, the Congress leader said he visited the Banaras Hindu University and sent a message to a particular community.

Earlier, amidst another show of strength, Modi filed his nomination for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi. Modi was accompanied by his right hand man and BJP UP in-charge Amit Shah while he carried out a huge roadshow and filed his nomination.

Invoking the gods in the spiritual city, Modi said he has been called to Varanasi by mother Ganga. Modi reached out to the people of Varanasi ahead of filing his nomination saying he would help the weavers in Varanasi just as he revived the kite business in Gujarat.
