New Delhi: At a time when police force is already taking the beating for dereliction of duty, another shocking case of a cop raping a young woman in Patna has come to light.
Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar has rushed to order a probe into the matter after a Patna-based businessman alleged that his wife was raped by a police official and that he himself was arrested on false charges.
According to a report in IANS, the businessman Kishan Dhanraj narrated his painful experiences and barbaric acts of the police official at the Chief Minister's weekly janta durbar (public meet).
"My wife was raped by Patna's Shastri Nagar police station inspector I C Sharma along with two other men. They also attempted to molest my daughter. I was arrested on false charges of committing fraud. In the lock-up I was beaten and tortured. They urinated on my face when I asked for water," IANS quoted Dhanraj as telling Nitish Kumar.
A shocked Nitish Kumar lost no time in ordering an investigation into the charges and also to provide the family adequate security as they felt threatened.
The allegations come at a time when the police personnel of many states are in the dock for their apathy towards rape victims.
Recently, a tribal minor, who was gangraped in a forest within Barwani district in Madhya Pradesh, was asked to pay Rs 20,000 to register the complaint. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
On New Year's eve, a girl was molested by nearly 70 men, her clothes torn off and her male friend manhandled in full public view and no policeman came to their rescue.
A Mumbai Police constable was also arrested recently for molesting a young woman in the Azad Maidan area. Constable Rajesh Pawar was reportedly hauled up by the public and handed over to the Marine Drive Police Station for outraging the modesty of a young woman.
