CUTTACK: Police have arrested two of the five persons, who were allegedly entrusted with the job of eliminating Minati Pradhan, and threw the latter off the Mahanadi barrage on May 7.The two, identified as Bapi alias Prashant Sahoo (26) of Pipili Haat Chhak and Bijay Mallick of Nilagiri, were nabbed from Bhubaneswar on Monday night. Bapi had been staying at Damana Square under Chandrasekharpur police limits of Bhubaneswar while Bijay was staying in Salia Sahi slum in the same city. Both were close friends of electrician Prashant Das, who has earlier been arrested in the case.The car, belonging to Bapi and used for the crime, and about ` 1.5 lakh of the around ` 1.80 lakh allegedly taken as the ‘supari’ amount from the family of retired judge Samir Dey for getting rid of Minati have been seized. The cash was recovered from the house of Bapi. Three more are still at large, DCP Praveen Kumar told mediapersons here.The Ray family, including the retired judge, his wife Gitika and son Satyabrata, had allegedly hatched the conspiracy to eliminate Mini after she claimed to have married Satyabrata and threatened to disrupt his marriage with another girl. The family accomplice and electrician Prashant was allegedly roped in and he agreed to carry out the job in association with his friends.While the supari amount had allegedly been decided at ` 3.5 lakh, about ` 1.80 lakh was given to Bapi and Bijay in two instalments of ` 10,000 and ` 1.70 lakh by Satyabrata. According to the police, five persons including the duo, came to the retired judge’s house HIG-21 at Lumbini Vihar on the evening of May 6. They were allegedly handed over the woman while the retired judge’s family had claimed that the masked miscreants had taken her at gunpoint.The miscreants had then tied limbs of the woman and made her lie on foot space between front and rear seats of the car. The car was driven by Bapi. They first went to Barang and then to Dhenkanal, Manguli, Bhubaneswar, Pipili, Jatni, Bhubaneswar and finally to the river barrage in Cuttack.Police said the miscreants had decided in the car to dump the woman in the river as there was no premeditated plan. They had covered all these places to pass time and allow them to throw Minati into the river in the dead of night.
