CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation is gearing up for massive celebrations to mark the 64th birthday of AIADMK leader and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on February 24. Briefing reporters at Ripon Building on Monday, Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy said, “As many as 64,000 students would be roped in for an awareness rally on global warming and climate change at Marina Beach and subsequently, about 12,800 saplings would be planted across the city to mark the day.”Besides, screening about two lakh people, the civic body’s health department would organise health and blood donation camps in every ward, he said. All the 200 wards would be covered under a tree planting drive. Autorickshaws will be engaged to campaign across the city to ensure public participation, the Mayor added.
