THRISSUR: The Thrissur Vigilance Court on Friday expressed its displeasure over the delay in the prosecution proceedings against Inspector General of Police Tomin Thachankary in the case related to amassing of wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. While considering the state government’s explanation that it had not intentionally delayed the prosecution and approached the Centre three times seeking approval to prosecute him in the case, Vigilance Inquiry Commissioner V Bhaskaran said the Centre would not have accepted Thachankary’s appeal against his prosecution. He has also no right to approach the Centre in the case, the court said. The court also cited the observation of the Supreme Court in the 2G case. The apex court had set a three-month deadline for the governments to decide whether or not to grant sanction for prosecution under Section 19 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Hence the state government or theinvestigating agency could take an appropriate decision in the matter if it did not get the approval within three-months, the court said.Earlier, while hearing a petition filed by social activist P D Joseph, the court had sought the explanation of the state government on the alleged delay in the case.
