CPM workers attend TP commemoration meet

KOZHIKODE: Ignoring party’s directive, hundreds of CPM cadre thronged the District Sports Council Hall, Mananchira here on Tuesday to attend the commemoration of slain RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan. The meeting was organised by Chandrasekharan Remembrance Committee, a group of CPM sympathisers and former leaders of SFI and DYFI. People from various areas of the district paid tributes as well as expressed indignation over the brutal elimination of the leader who stood for Marxist values. Curiously, many who attended the meeting had worked along side Chandrasekharan when he was an active member of the SFI and DYFI. Large gatherings were seen on the roadside as the hall was filled with participants. Former DYFI state committee member N P Prathap Kumar presided over the function. Former SFI central committee member and member of CPM Edachery branch committee K S Vimal delivered the remembrance speech. CPM Kuruvattoor local committee member Mohammed Salim, former DYFI leader K P Chandran, former SFI leaders Lal Kishore, Dr Santosh and Madhu Master attended the function. K K Suresh, former SFI district committee member and brother-in-law of slain RMP leader Chandrasekharan, also attended the meet. Earlier, CPM district secretariat member M Bhaskaran, who is the party district secretary in-charge, said that the party had no connection with the remembrance meeting and would take action against the party members, who would attend the meet. “Chandrasekharan was a great organiser, who led the party from behind the curtain. He never tried to project himself before the media. He always led agitations by organising the common activists when he was working in SFI and DYFI,” said Prathap Kumar in his presidential address. The people of the state would never forgive those who were behind the brutal killing of TP, he added.
