KOCHI: The CPM, which turned WikiLeaks findings as mere interpretations, took a somersault on Thursday demanding the resignation of the IUML ministers based on its findings. The CPM that had described the meetings with the US diplomats as just ‘courtesy calls’ gives a different meaning when the same findings point at the IUML.CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has demanded the resignation of Industry Minister P K Kunhalikutty and Social Welfare Minister M K Muneer based on the WikiLeaks documents, which only shows the party’s double standard.According to WikiLeaks, Muneer had revealed that NDF, an extremist organisation, had been trying to infiltrate into the IUML and Kunhalikutty was supporting them. Muneer also blamed the ‘discredited IUML leaders’ for shielding the NDF for their personal interests. When the CPM admits nothing serious and wrong in having met the US diplomats, it finds WikiLeaks revelations against Muneer and Kunhalikutty as a serious matter. Interestingly, the CPM, which had stated the reports as mere interpretations, is not ready to accept the same when it comes to the case of IUML leaders.Though the party had admitted to have met the US diplomats, it is yet to give a satisfactory explanation to Vijayan’s disowning of the agitation against Coca-Cola by terming it as a mere local issue. The disowning of the agitation has come as a big embarrassment to the party in the run-up to the organisational elections. The party, which is on a face-saving mission, only wants to divert the attention from being the focal point of all the issue.Vijayan had said that the WikiLeaks findings was not a ‘big issue’ as the party had a clear stand on foreign investment. It is quite a dilemma that Vijayan has given serious overtones to the revelations of the WikiLeaks findings against the IUML leaders whereas downplaying them when it comes to his party and its cadres. With the party conferences beginning at the branch level this month, the official faction of the party led by Pinarayi is in a dilemma to cover up all the WikiLeaks findings, which otherwise could boomerang on them.
