Jakarta: Lindsay Davenport will return to singles tennis after an absence of almost a year when she contests the Wismilak International on the island of Bali later in September, tournament organisers said on Tuesday.

Davenport, who recently announced she will play doubles with fellow American Lisa Raymond at New Haven in August, has not competed on the WTA tour since reaching the Beijing quarter-finals in September 2006, where she lost to Amelie Mauresmo.

The 2005 Wismilak champion, Davenport has won three Grand Slams and a gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, as well as reaching the top ranking in both singles and doubles.

Davenport gave birth to her first child with husband and former USC tennis player Jon Leach - a son named Jagger - on June 10.

Also scheduled to play at the Bali tournament starting September 10 are world No. 3 Jelena Jankovic of Serbia, Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova and Swiss left-hander Patty Schnyder.
